Effective Interaction Training in the Work Environment for Employees at the Executive Secretariat of Universitas Gadjah Mada

The role of employees, especially in the Office of the Executive Secretariat of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), is critical in supporting the implementation of various programs to address increasingly complex university challenges. Secretary is required to be a catalyst personality, namely a person who empowers himself and others, is equipped with collaboration skills, and relies on maximum personal power. The unique qualities of these catalysts are essential in their role in supporting the coordination of various tasks, especially in the preparation, implementation and management of administration and related parties involved in multiple activities, both at the university, faculty, work unit, and external partner levels. Employees must be able to interact effectively, relying on interpersonal skills to meet work goals, build trust from various parties, and create a conducive work atmosphere and culture.

The Directorate of Human Resources, in collaboration with the UGM Rector’s Secretary, conducts Effective Interaction Training in the Work Environment. The training is designed for employees in the leadership secretariat to equip employees with concepts and tools to interact effectively by using the principles of interaction that respect, involve, and empower so that the interaction and communication processes they do can be well received while ensuring the purpose of the interaction,  communication achieved. Effective Interaction Training in the Work Environment was held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Grand Rohan Hotel Jogja and attended by 75 participants.

The Directorate of HR opened the training with the delivery of technical training instructions by the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Data and Administration of Education and Training, Erika Purnawati, S.Kom., M.Cs. Furthermore, the opening and the first training materials were delivered by the Rector’s Secretary, Drs. Gugup Kismono, MBA, Ph.D., gave a general briefing to all training participants. The primary speaker for this training is Dr.(C) Antonius Sudarisman, MM, a Human Resources Expert and Researcher. The training materials are Competence of Employees/Secretaries in the Office of the Secretariat of the Leaders, Interaction Key Principles, Feedback Fundamentals (STAR) Interactions Process, and Action Plans. One of the training participants stated that the Effective Interaction Training was an “opportunity to increase self-capacity”. (DSDM/Rista)
