Yogyakarta, August 2024 — In a bid to enhance the professional development of civil servants (Aparatur Sipil Negara, ASN) within Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the Human Resource Directorate (DSDM) organized a Technical Guidance Session for the preparation of Five-Year Periodic Competency Development Plans (RPK). The session took place on August 20–21, 2024, at the Bulaksumur Room, Gadjah Mada University Club (UC) Hotel, Yogyakarta. This event is a crucial step in supporting ASN as they prepare to submit their RPK inputs, scheduled for August 22–28, 2024.
Strengthening Competency Development for ASN
The core objective of this technical guidance session was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the procedures and steps involved in developing the Rencana Pengembangan Kompetensi (RPK), in line with the established guidelines. This initiative is part of a broader effort by UGM to improve the quality and professionalism of its civil servants, ensuring that their competency development plans align with the specific needs of their respective work units, whether at the faculty/school or central office level.
The session’s primary focus was on empowering Group Leaders of Competency Development Plan Teams with the knowledge to correctly prepare their Five-Year Competency Development Plans. This is vital for ensuring that the competency development proposals are not only well-prepared but also aligned with the strategic objectives and operational needs of the units they represent.
Tailored Sessions for Effective Collaboration
The guidance sessions were divided into several smaller groups based on the participants’ respective work units, enabling more effective interaction and hands-on assistance from the facilitators. These sessions aimed to foster collaboration and ensure that each participant could receive personalized support to create an RPK that meets both institutional standards and departmental needs.
The guidance process was designed to be interactive, allowing for open discussions on challenges faced in developing RPKs. It also offered a platform for participants to voice suggestions for improvement, making the event not only an informative session but also an opportunity to refine the process for future cycles.
Feedback and Insights for Future Improvements
At the close of the session, participants were asked to evaluate the training’s effectiveness. Initial feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction, with many participants noting the importance of understanding the RPK development process in-depth and how it could be directly applied to their units. Participants also offered valuable insights on areas for future improvement, particularly around streamlining the process and providing additional resources for those with more complex departmental needs.
A Step Towards Strengthening ASN Competencies
This initiative is an essential part of UGM’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its civil servants, particularly as the university continues to prioritize the development of a skilled and adaptive workforce. The guidance provided in this session will not only help participants create better competency plans but also support UGM’s overall mission of improving its administrative efficiency and alignment with national standards.
As UGM continues to invest in the professional growth of its staff, the Five-Year Competency Development Plan training sessions are poised to become a vital part of the university’s long-term strategy for excellence in public administration, ensuring that the ASN are well-prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing academic and professional landscape.
Looking ahead, UGM will use the feedback from this event to refine future training sessions, with the goal of making the process even more efficient and impactful for its staff. (DSDM/Rista)
