The Intensive English Course (IEC) is an annual training activity in cooperation between the Directorate of Human Resources (DSDM UGM) and the Vocational School English Team ugm followed by education staff (Tendik) in UGM, both from faculty and schools and from directorates and offices located at UGM Headquarters.

IEC 2022 is held online on the Zoom platform, and eLOK (e-Learning system used for the Massive Open Online Course or MOOC) is a learning management system used to upload learning contracts, assignments, and download materials. IEC aims to hone English skills in everyday work to support performance and competence in practicing English in day-to-day work. Unlike the previous years of IEC, IEC 2022 carries the theme: It’s fun, widens insights, and expands networking.

IEC this period is organized for participants who have graduated from the previous program, namely Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced classes. Participants from the Beginner level axel to the Advanced level are 47 participants divided into A and B classes. Participants from the Beginner level excel to the Advanced level are 55 participants who, likewise, divided into A and B classes. IEC began on Monday, January 31 to April 12, 2022, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

At the IEC’s first session, the Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resources, Paminto Adhi, gave an opening speech. Paminto stated that this year is a continuation of the last year’s IEC, making it a challenge for participants and teachers. IEC 2022 is a form of maintaining the obtained knowledge by participants in the past year. The human resources challenge with the World Class University demands English language competence for UGM employees.

At the opening of IEC, DSDM UGM also invited alumni who had graduated the previous year to join the first session themed: Public Speaking Practical Tips and Tricks delivered by Nabilla Kusuma Vardhani, S.I.P., M.A. vocational school lecturer who is a public speaking expert. The second material is a Video Making Tutorial from Mohamad Abdurrahman Agosto, ST.  Video Creation Tutorials are added in the material with 2 JP (lesson hours) to answer the current learning challenges used as video communication facilities intended for participants. By finishing this course, participants will increase their competence, master English, be more confident, and apply the gathered knowledge to produce optimal performance. (Rista/DSDM)
