In a bid to foster professionalism and integrity within the public service sector, the Directorate of Human Resources at Universitas Gadjah Mada (DSDM UGM), in collaboration with John Robert Powers Indonesia, hosted a webinar titled “Professional Ethics in the Academic Environment” on Tuesday (26/3). Attended by 1000 participants, including lecturers and staff members from Universitas Gadjah Mada, the webinar aimed to delve into the realm of personal branding and its impact on workplace professionalism.
During the opening remarks of the webinar, Endri Heriyanto, S.H., M.Kn, the Secretary of the Directorate of Human Resources, highlighted, “Through this webinar, it is hoped that UGM employees will embody professional ethics, possess strong interpersonal skills in all situations, and demonstrate sensitivity to their surroundings, thereby enhancing their professionalism.”
The featured speaker for the webinar was Caroline Sekarwati, S.Psi, a seasoned practitioner in human resources and the current Chief Operating Officer (COO) of John Robert Powers Indonesia. In her presentation on “Professional Ethics in the Academic Environment,” Caroline emphasized the significance of personal branding. She stressed that in the journey of self-development, individuals must familiarize themselves with their own character, skills, and mental barriers.
Professional ethics and personal branding are intricately linked and mutually reinforcing. Personal branding involves how individuals introduce and promote themselves within a professional setting. Conversely, professional ethics govern the conduct and interactions of individuals within their professional sphere. By amalgamating robust professional ethics with effective personal branding strategies, employees can cultivate a positive and impactful image in their workplace environment.
