The dynamics of increasing campus transportation services need to meet with expanding the ability of driver officers in terms of expertise, skills, traffic law ethics, and preparation for physical and mental conditions. Driver officers must provide excellent service covering aspects of service and the vehicle’s state, which is in good condition at any time. Driver services include campus public transportation services, support, emergency services, and the provision of VVIP services for Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) officials and university guests. To improve the ability of driver officers in terms of expertise, skills, traffic law ethics, and preparation for physical and mental conditions, the Directorate of Human Resources (DSDM) UGM held Driving Safety Training for Drivers at UGM.
Safety Driving Training participants are 60 UGM participants who were drivers from various units at UGM, ten outside UGM participants consisting of 5 drivers from the Civil Service Police Unit for the Fire Department of Sleman District, and five drivers from the Office of the National Search and Rescue Agency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This training is a collaboration between the Directorate of SDM and the Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Police (Polda DIY). The training was held offline on 6-7 September 2022. Safety Driving Training speakers were experts in the field of safe driving from UGM and Ditlantas Polda DIY. The first material is about the Psychology of Driving, delivered by the Head of the Center for Security, Safety, Occupational Health and Environment (PK4L) UGM, Arif Nurcahyo, S.Psi., MA. The Police Commissioner, Iwan Saktiadi, SIK, MH, M. .Si. who is the Director of Traffic of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Police (Polda DIY), delivered the following training material. The Police Commissioner gave material on Defensive Driving. The first training day ended with material on Traffic Laws and Regulations provided by First Inspector (Iptu) Ragil Suwardi, Ditlantas Polda DIY.
The training continued on the second day with Driving Practice activities led by the Instructor Team of Ditlantas Polda DIY. There were two types of driving practice vehicles, small vehicles, namely official cars, including vehicles for VIP guests and ambulances, and large vehicles consisting of trucks, buses, and fire engines (damkar). The Directorate SDM carried out the driving practice in the courtyard area of the Balairung, Universitas Gadjah Mada Hall, in collaboration with the PK4L team and the Ditlantas Polda DIY. One participant who is a driver in one of the work units at UGM stated that the Driving Safety Training benefits employees, especially drivers who need refreshment regarding safe driving.
