The Directorate of Human Resources at Gadjah Mada University organized a two-day event, the Training of Emcee and Protocol, held at the University Club Hotel in Bulaksumur Yogyakarta on September 14th and 15th, 2023. The event was a huge success, with 75 participants from various Faculties/Schools, the UGM Head Office, and several external attendees from other universities. The event was jam-packed with informative and engaging sessions that provided valuable insights to all the participants.
The event was inaugurated by the Director of Human Resources, Prof. Suadi, S.Pi., M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D, who emphasized the importance of developing one’s competency in presenting official and non-official activities professionally. The attendees were thrilled to participate in the event, thanks to the plethora of informative and engaging sessions presented.
The event was divided into multiple sessions, each covering different topics related to the training of Emcee and Protocol. The first session was conducted by the Coordinator for Ceremonial Management, Haryanto, S.E., M.M., who presented an insightful session on Protocol Management. The attendees learned about the importance of communication skills, especially in the context of protocol management.
Anas conducted the second session. Anas Arifuddin, S.Pd., CH.C.Ht.CT.CM.CT.OSB, who provided invaluable tips on public speaking for event hosts. He discussed various topics such as opening and closing stunning vocal work, tone of voice, and material creation. The participants were thrilled to learn from such an experienced speaker, and they were eager to put their new skills to the test.
The third session was conducted by the practical presenter, teacher, and news reader for TVRI Yogyakarta, Ferry Anggara, S.E., M.M., who shared his insights on MC Performance. He discussed how to host an event properly and appear attractive, along with practicing professional grooming as an MC. Participants learned how to improve their appearance, project confidence, and create a positive impression on the audience.
The first day’s final session was conducted by the inspiring Riza Perdanakusuma, S.E., M.B.A., who discussed the importance of increasing mental self-confidence. He motivated the participants to achieve success by increasing their self-confidence because everyone has the potential to become a “star.” The participants were thrilled to learn from a motivational speaker who provided practical tips on building self-confidence.
On the second day of the event, the participants got to put their new skills to the test by practicing presenting formal/informal events before the stage. The participants were divided into three groups and reviewed by facilitators experienced in the event hosting field. Participants were judged based on their mastery of the material, voice and intonation, self-confidence, appearance, and suitability of clothing.
The event concluded with a post-test and filling out a questionnaire to evaluate the implementation of the training. The feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many suggesting increasing the material on MC performance. They also hoped that there would be practice or simulation for protocol, enabling them to practice how to communicate well, be confident, use correct intonation and a good voice in presenting an event, as well as protocol principles so that the event can run according to the standards and plans that have been set.
In summary, the Training of Emcee and Protocol was a valuable experience for all the participants. The event provided practical tips and insights on improving communication skills, project confidence, and creating a positive impression on the audience. The participants were thrilled to learn from experienced and motivational speakers who provided practical tips and insights on building self-confidence.
