Yogyakarta, July 6, 2024 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is equipping its supporting staff with cutting-edge tools to tackle programming challenges through its Low-Code Programming Training Program, organized by the Directorate of Human Resources (DSDM) in collaboration with the Directorate of Information Technology (DTI). This blended learning program, which combined in-person and online sessions, provided participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in low-code programming—a revolutionary approach to software development that minimizes the need for extensive coding.
The training program commenced with two in-person sessions on June 21 and 28, held at the Computer Laboratory on the first floor of the UGM Library and Archives building. The program concluded with an online session on July 5, delivered via Microsoft Teams. A total of 38 supporting staff from various units across UGM participated, demonstrating their commitment to advancing their technical skills.
Empowering Staff Through Innovation
The program opened with remarks from M. Zudha Ghofur, S.T., M.Cs, Head of the Subdirectorate of Information Technology Services and Dissemination at DTI. In his speech, Ghofur emphasized the growing importance of digital innovation in administrative and operational tasks. “Low-code programming offers a powerful solution to bridge the gap between technical needs and resource constraints, empowering our staff to create functional applications with minimal coding expertise,” he stated.
The sessions were led by Rinaldi, M.Eng, an expert in digital solutions, who guided participants through three key topics:
- Introduction to Power BI and Power Platform: Exploring the capabilities of Power BI for data visualization and Power Platform for building integrated solutions.
- Power BI: Report Design and Data Management: A hands-on session focusing on creating dynamic reports and managing data effectively.
- Introduction to Power Apps and Power Automate: Demonstrating how to build integrated business solutions using Power Apps and automate workflows with Power Automate.
Redefining Application Development with Low-Code Tools
Participants were introduced to the core principles and applications of low-code programming, a modern software development approach that allows users to design and deploy applications with minimal manual coding. Utilizing visual tools and drag-and-drop interfaces, low-code platforms like Power Platform simplify the process of application development by offering prebuilt components and intuitive design environments.
This approach not only accelerates the development process but also democratizes it, enabling non-technical users to prototype, test, and deploy applications that meet their specific needs. During the sessions, participants explored real-world use cases and gained hands-on experience in creating workflows, automating repetitive tasks, and developing custom applications tailored to their departmental requirements.
Advancing UGM’s Digital Transformation Goals
The Low-Code Programming Training Program is part of UGM’s broader mission to embrace digital transformation and foster innovation across all levels of the university. By equipping supporting staff with low-code skills, the university aims to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance collaboration across units.
Feedback from participants highlighted the program’s practicality and relevance. Many expressed appreciation for the interactive format and the opportunity to gain skills that could be immediately applied to their work. “This training has opened new possibilities for us to address complex challenges with simple, yet effective digital solutions,” shared one participant.
Looking Ahead: Building a Culture of Digital Empowerment
As UGM continues to prioritize digital literacy and technological empowerment, programs like this play a crucial role in preparing its workforce for the demands of the future. The university plans to expand its training initiatives to include more advanced modules and hybrid formats, ensuring accessibility and deeper engagement.
The Low-Code Programming Training not only equips staff with technical skills but also fosters a mindset of innovation and adaptability. Through this initiative, UGM reaffirms its dedication to creating a digitally empowered community, ensuring that its staff remains at the forefront of technological advancements and contributes to the university’s mission of excellence in education and administration.
