
Yogyakarta, June 13, 2025 – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its Directorate of Human Resources, has reaffirmed its dedication to leadership excellence by organizing the Gadjah Mada Leadership Development Program (GLDP) Training 2: Change Management. This strategic program, held on June 13, 2025, was designed to strengthen the capacity of managerial staff in navigating organizational change, fostering innovation, and ensuring adaptability in the ever-evolving higher education landscape.
The training was attended by 54 participants, consisting of 44 supporting staff (81%) and 10 lecturers (19%). The participant composition highlighted UGM’s inclusivity, with representation across units: 67% from the Central Administration Office (KPTU) and 33% from faculties and schools. Most participants were civil servants (85% PNS) while the remaining 15% were UGM employees, reflecting a broad scope of managerial roles within the university.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Distinguished Speakers
The program featured interactive and thought-provoking sessions led by seasoned facilitators. Dr. Anton Sudarisman, M.M. delivered the Change Management Simulation, which received outstanding evaluations, with 89.8% of participants rating it “highly relevant” and “highly mastered”. Meanwhile, Ragil Sriharto, S.E., M.M. guided participants through Change Management Concepts and Reflections, equally praised for clarity and practical application, with 83.7% giving top marks for mastery.
The curriculum combined theoretical foundations, gamification methods, and real-world reflection, ensuring participants not only learned but also practiced strategies for managing change effectively. One participant remarked, “The gamification method was excellent—fun, engaging, and it made the material much easier to understand.” Another added, “This training was very helpful in developing unit management and initiating change processes.”
Strong Evaluations Across All Aspects
The training earned exceptionally high ratings across its dimensions. More than 70% of participants strongly agreed that the curriculum was systematic, relevant, and aligned with current needs. Facilities also received positive feedback, with 77.6% strongly agreeing that UGM’s eLOK Learning Management System (LMS) supported the program effectively. Venue comfort, room cleanliness, and catering also gained favorable reviews, with over 63% strongly agreeing these aspects enhanced their experience.
The organizing committee’s performance was also commended, with nearly 70% of participants giving the highest rating for professionalism, responsiveness, and courtesy. Comments such as “The organization was excellent, thank you HR team” and “Keep up the good work” reflected strong appreciation for the event’s seamless execution.
Constructive Feedback and Future Directions
While the training was considered highly successful, participants suggested improvements for future sessions, including more flexibility in scheduling, additional case studies drawn from UGM’s internal environment, and deeper focus on team development and conflict management. Many also expressed interest in follow-up sessions within the GLDP series, emphasizing the importance of continuity in leadership development.
Participants highlighted specific future training needs such as:
- Conflict and Risk Management: organizational risk management, conflict resolution, and team-based conflict handling.
- Leadership and Team Development: communication skills, motivation, managing burnout, and positive organizational culture.
- Communication and Negotiation: public speaking, negotiation, and presentation techniques.
- Project, HR, and Financial Management: project management, HR development, financial management, and valuation.
- Academic and Technical Skills: academic writing, English presentation skills, and AI applications in academic settings.
- Career Development and Entrepreneurship: career transition planning, entrepreneurship, and structured programs for retirement preparation.
Building a Culture of Change Leadership at UGM
The overwhelmingly positive evaluations—where more than 89% of participants rated the sessions as “very good”—reflect the success of GLDP in equipping UGM’s managerial staff with essential change leadership skills. Beyond knowledge, the training also instilled motivation and confidence, with participants noting that it inspired them to actively initiate and manage transformation within their units.
As one participant concluded: “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to keep developing ourselves, even as we near retirement. This training keeps our spirit alive to support the younger generation who will lead UGM forward.”
