Yogyakarta, August 2024 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently organized a groundbreaking Foundational Intelligence Training Program for Supporting Staff, held from August 13–14, 2024, utilizing a hybrid format that combined online and on-site learning. The program attracted 41 participants representing various units across the university, marking a significant step in equipping supporting staff with essential skills and knowledge in the field of intelligence.

Enhancing Competence for a Secure and Informed Campus Environment

The primary aim of this training was to bolster participants’ understanding and fundamental skills in intelligence operations, enabling them to contribute more effectively to their roles in security, surveillance, and information gathering within their respective units. The program served as a key component in UGM’s broader strategy to enhance campus safety and operational efficiency.

The carefully designed curriculum offered a comprehensive overview of the principles and applications of intelligence in a professional setting. Core topics included:

  • Introduction to Intelligence: Exploring the definition, scope, and relevance of intelligence in organizational settings.
  • Roles and Functions of Intelligence: Understanding how intelligence supports decision-making and operational goals.
  • Techniques for Information Gathering: Learning systematic methods to collect, analyze, and utilize information.
  • Practical Applications in the Workplace: Translating theoretical knowledge into actionable insights for real-world scenarios.

The sessions were led by experienced professionals with expertise in intelligence and security operations. Their engaging and practical approach ensured participants gained both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills applicable to their daily responsibilities.

High Praise from Participants

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the program’s relevance and the engaging delivery of materials. An evaluation conducted at the end of the training revealed high satisfaction rates, particularly with the quality of the content, the expertise of the trainers, and the hybrid format that allowed flexibility in learning.

One participant shared, “The training has significantly enhanced my understanding of intelligence and how I can apply it to improve security measures and operational efficiency in my department. The practical examples and interactive sessions were particularly valuable.”

A Foundation for Future Growth

The training program underscores UGM’s commitment to fostering a well-prepared and knowledgeable workforce that can adapt to the evolving demands of a modern university environment. By integrating intelligence training into its professional development initiatives, UGM is setting a benchmark for institutional preparedness and proactive risk management.

This inaugural program marks the beginning of what promises to be a series of advanced intelligence training opportunities for supporting staff in the future. UGM envisions a campus where every member of its community contributes to a secure and informed environment, aligning with the university’s broader goals of excellence in education, research, and service to society.

As UGM continues to lead as a hub for innovation and professional development, initiatives like the Foundational Intelligence Training Program solidify its role as a pioneer in equipping staff with the skills necessary to meet emerging challenges and uphold the highest standards of campus security and operations.
