Yogyakarta, January 17, 2025 – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has successfully conducted the Training on Basic Instructional Skills (PEKERTI) from December 31, 2024, to January 16, 2025. The training aimed to equip lecturers with essential pedagogical skills to improve the quality of higher education. A total of 69 lecturers from various faculties participated, consisting of 62% male and 38% female participants. The majority of attendees were between 20 and 40 years old, reflecting the enthusiasm of early-career lecturers in enhancing their instructional competencies.
The PEKERTI training program is part of UGM’s commitment to ensuring that educators remain adaptive to modern teaching methodologies. The curriculum covered fundamental aspects of instructional design, student engagement, effective assessment strategies, and the integration of digital learning tools. Given the rapid evolution of education, particularly with the increasing role of technology, this training is essential to help lecturers implement innovative and student-centered learning approaches.
Positive Feedback and High Satisfaction from Participants
The evaluation results indicated high satisfaction among participants regarding various aspects of the training. Over 81.8% of attendees rated the training curriculum as well-structured and relevant to their teaching needs, while 83.3% acknowledged that the materials provided aligned with the latest developments in education. Additionally, 84.8% found the course content highly applicable to their teaching practices.
Participants also highlighted the adequacy of the training duration (seven days), with 75.8% stating it met their learning needs. Furthermore, technical aspects such as training facilities and digital learning platforms (eLOK and MOOC UGM Online) received positive feedback, demonstrating the effectiveness of a blended learning approach. However, a significant majority (66.7%) expressed a preference for future training sessions to be conducted fully offline, indicating the need for a more interactive face-to-face learning experience.
Commitment to Continuous Improvement
In addition to structured sessions, the training emphasized interactive learning, including group discussions, case studies, and hands-on teaching simulations. Many participants appreciated the practical components, which allowed them to immediately apply new strategies in their teaching. The organizing committee received praise for their responsiveness and professionalism, with 78.8% of participants commending their support throughout the program.
Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, some areas for improvement were noted, particularly in providing easier access to technical materials and refining the balance between theoretical and practical components. Based on these insights, UGM aims to further refine the training structure in future iterations, ensuring that lecturers gain maximum benefits from the program.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening UGM’s Teaching Excellence
With the successful implementation of this year’s PEKERTI training, UGM reaffirms its dedication to enhancing the quality of higher education through continuous faculty development. By equipping lecturers with innovative teaching skills and pedagogical knowledge, the university ensures that students receive an education that is engaging, relevant, and aligned with global standards.
As UGM continues to evolve as a leading academic institution, programs like PEKERTI serve as a testament to its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Future training sessions will incorporate participant feedback to create an even more impactful and tailored learning experience for lecturers across disciplines.
