This diversity presents both significant challenges and opportunities in creating an inclusive environment that supports everyone. Today’s event aligns with one of the strategic goals of UGM’s 2022-2027 plan, promoting excellent, innovative, inclusive, and applicable transdisciplinary education while enhancing our core competency in inclusivity.”
The keynote speaker, Dr. Ratna Noviani, M.Si., a distinguished faculty member and Chair of the Master’s Program in Cultural and Media Studies at UGM’s Graduate School, highlighted the university’s daily engagement with diverse elements. “In our academic life, we witness and practice diversity every day. Our students come from varied backgrounds, embodying cultural multiculturalism. We must ensure that Indonesia’s motto, ‘Unity in Diversity,’ is reflected in our actions, preventing any identity from being marginalized or discriminated against.”
Dr. Noviani stressed the importance of human rights equality, echoing the United Nations’ declaration that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” She asserted that an inclusive society prioritizes equal opportunities for all its members, including within educational settings.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Noviani called for a collective commitment to inclusivity. “Inclusivity is a responsibility we all share, from individuals to the entire academic community. (HR/Rista)
